Pink and White Terraces Pieces Sold

A private buyer bought two pieces of New Zealand's Pink and White Terraces for NZ$64,000. The famed terraces, once described as the eighth wonder of the world, were buried by the 1886 eruption of Mt Tarawera, which also buried a village and killed 120 people. The pieces were bought at an Auckland art auction. The buyer will keep the geological specimens in New Zealand, International Art Centre director Richard Thomson said. The two rare specimens attracted interest from around the world and the sale price exceeded expectations.
