Pitch of Blue Whale Songs DecliningThe sound level of the songs blue whales sing across the oceans to attract mates is steadily declining and scientists believe the trend may be good news for the endangered marine mammal. Blue whale song data was studied by USA’s WhaleAcoustics, Scripps and the NOAA Fisheries Service Southwest Fisheries Science Centre and a downward curve in the pitch/frequency, of the songs was discovered. The decline was tracked in blue whales across the globe. Article reprints or information email DiveNZ@divenewzealand.co.nz |
