New vessel to help Australian research

The Commonwealth Government committed AU$120 million to purchase an 85m research vessel for the Marine National Facility. The new vessel will replace the Southern Surveyor. At least 60% of Australian territory is ocean with only 12% having been mapped. This investment will enable Australia to maintain its pre-eminent position internationally as a marine science nation and meet future demands for innovative, cutting-edge marine research.
