South African diver breaks world record

34 year old Verna van Schaik from Gauteng was the first woman diver in the world to break the diving world record with a depth of 221m. She also holds the world record for the deepest dive in a cave and the deepest dive at altitude. She gave a dream performance and reached the bottom in 12 minutes with 5 hours and 27 minutes decompression time. Van Schaick took 40 stops with frequent cool drink intake. She breathed only oxygen in the last 6m to disperse any traces of nitrogen left in her blood.
