Fishermen facing charges

Four fishermen caught off Chatham Islands in early November were believed to be diving for paua illegally. There was 250kg of paua found and returned to the sea. The men face up to $100,000 in fines and the surrender of boat and all diving gear.

Fisheries officers also seized dive gear and a $20,000 vessel after catching three divers with 298 undersized paua at Tutukaka. The paua were taken from the Goat Island marine reserve area.
