Chinese shipwrecks discovered

Several shipwrecks with artifacts dating from the late Yuan to the early Ming periods of Chinese history, approximately 600 years ago, have been discovered in the South China Sea. All the wrecks are located along known historical sailing routes, far from shore, but within decompression diving depths. The intact ships lying on the seabed were discovered using side scan sonars and magnetometers. Their location has protected them from unauthorized recovery so they are expected to provide numerous artifacts and much new information on this period in Chinese history.
