Round the world yacht race to give marine science clues

Ocean scientists and school children around the world will be following an international yacht race as part of a global environmental project – Volvo Ocean Adventure. Southampton Oceanographic Centre scientists are providing a package of instruments to be fitted to each yacht taking part in the race (formerly known as the Whitbread). Sensors will measure ocean colour, sea and air temperature. The instrument package will be fitted to a mast at the rear of the yacht. Data will be combined with satellite images provided by NASA.
